Today we look at the Farr 45 class, and how 14 years on from its inception, it is proving the ideal boat to buck the recession. Our condolences go to the family of Peter ‘Spike’ Doriean, who, due to race at the Voilies de St Barts on Rambler, died suddenly in his bathroom in St Maarten. The amiable Australian was best known for sailing on djuice dragons/News Corp and then movistar in the Volvo Ocean Race and had many friends in our sport. Yes, folks – there are now two Goldings in singlehanded round the world sailing, with the latest news that Australian Garry (no relation) is entered in the Velux 5 Oceans.
