Sam Davies - AG2R. Loose cover

Here we are still in the South North Atlantic, still under spinnaker, heading for St Barths. ETA Tuesday early morning.

We are being shadowed by Cercle Vert who is very efficiently protecting his 3rd place. Frustrating as it is, it is also a lesson of perfect "loose cover" which we have been subject to since the 600 mile to go mark! We keep are hopes up because there are surely some snakes and ladders between here and the finish, notably the squalls, which seem quite active for these last two days. Maybe also the fact that Barbuda is also between us and the finish and we will have to pass one side or the other.....

The days are hard, with temperatures above 35deg C and the Trade Winds rather lazy, but the nights are delightful with perfect conditions under the stars, in shorts and T-shirt.

During this race I have been in touch with boats in 2 different oceans: Sidney on Majan who is somewhere near Singapore, and Jess Watson (a young Australian solo round the world sailor) who is somewhere south of Australia (getting a bit of a kicking from the weather by all accounts!) It is funny to correspond with others at sea in different oceans, people with different nationalities, in totally different boats, but all with the same passion for adventure and the sea.
