Miranda Merron on the GOR: Into the southeast trades

Yesterday late afternoon it became clear that the entire horizon to our south was blocked by an enormous cloud - one that is measured in miles - and that we didn't really have an escape route.

So as darkness fell, we put on our combat gear and waited.

We were lucky - the monster produced decent breeze for a while, though not the right direction, and it toyed with us, just letting us pass around the worst of it. It was followed by a smaller version which completely removed the wind for a while, then regurgitated it... and as Campagne de France took off at pace, we waited for the wind to abate, but it didn't, so we took a reef in the mainsail and concluded that perhaps we had finally reached the much anticipated Southeast Trade Winds proper. We have been living at a permanent angle of heel ever since - see photo!

Thank you very much to those who have sent messages. It's great to get news from land, and apologies for not replying. It has been a busy few days.
