A tricky day at the office for the tacticians as summer finally arrived bringing a light 8-10knot South Easterly gradient. All in all, a pretty pleasing day for Team GBR, with GBR Black having a great day – leading narrowly by 3.5 points and Team GBR Red in second, back to the French in third. The results have shown that there are no individual boats or teams having it their own way – with the first race winner Dignity (our Team GBR Red stable mate) finishing 15th in the second and the second heat winner from the French team finishing 18th in the first race.

It's not clear whether the course was favouring either the smaller or bigger boats, but what was clear was that whoever got a clear lane and managed to protect his air up the first beat was going to be in the chocolates.

On CNBC, we managed to do that reasonably well in the first race, benefiting from the longer downwind legs into the tide with a respectable 5th in the first race. The second race was a little more difficult for us after being infringed at the start, we got off the line 3 deep, then when the tide turned it was back to short tacking up the beach scaring the holiday makers enjoying the fine weather along the beach at stokes bay. A 10th in the second race for CNBC and some mid fleet finished for our 2 team mates, leaves Team GBR Red in second trailing by 3.5 points behind the RYA development squad in GBR Black and CNBC lying equal 4th individual boat.

The guys in GBR Black will be pleased to be topping the leader board on Day 1 – but with the 154nm overnight race tomorrow carrying double points and less than 5 knots forecast overnight, no doubt it will be all change again come Tuesday morning…
