2012 and beyond
2012 and beyond
After the Solo Massif Marine last week, the turn around was quick and strait after the prize giving we left on the delivery back to our training bases. For my fine vessel, Artemis 23, it went strait to Port La Foret where it has spent the week in a shed being repainted for the season thats starts in 4 weeks with the Transat AG2R.This has limited the time spent on the boat so, instead I have used the chance to take some time off and catch up on the boring administrative things that unfortunately accompany this sport but, allow us to spend the rest of our time on the water.
This involved getting on top of all the transat preparations, which makes us the most prepared I think I have been for any trip. In my experience this isn't always the best idea but, i'd still prefer it this way than any other. I have also got some help to make a media pack and promotional video for my sailing campaigns, the aim is to allow me to keep competitive and eventually tackle the Vendee Globe with podium chances. Its a long way off but, its never too early to start. Having seen the first draft of these i'm getting very excited to see the final product and start the hunt for sponsorship.
I am fortunate enough to be funded through the AG2R and the 2012 Solitaire du Figaro. After that, I am looking for a bit of money to complete the 2012 season including the Solo Le Havre in August and the Izmir Cup in September. However, from now the big hunt starts for a partner for the Figaro next year leading onto, in an ideal world, A competitive 2020 Vendee Globe. In order to get there and be competitive, the aim is to do as much as possible in between, including more years in the Figaro, Transat Jacques Vabre, Route du Rhum, Barcelona World Race and the 2016 Vendee Globe. But, before I get ahead of myself, the focus stays on the next few months and the 2 big races we have coming up and confirmed.
The boat goes back in the water tomorrow, we then have a couple more training sessions of which one will be single handed and the second will be double handed with Nick Cherry in preparation for the Transat.
All for now
