Ian Walker: Round the Azores

It feels good to once again be heading west rather than away from the Lorient finish.

We rounded the Azores this morning at first light and were met with a raucous reception from some members of the local yacht club in a rib. A great effort and well received – thanks!

We did well overnight to judge our tack correctly which has kept the deficit down to 14 miles after a tough day yesterday. Hopefully there will be no more upwind in this race! All attention is now on the forecasted wild ride back to France. This leg could still hinge on who pushes hardest and survives the gale force winds ahead. We will make sure we are well rested and everything is strapped to the back of the bus before the wind rapidly builds tonight. Tomorrow could present the sternest test yet of this race.
