At the ISAF Mid-Year meeting, the main Council chose the Mackay FX as the women’s skiff, the Nacra 17 as the mixed multihull and brought in kiteboarding at the expense of the sailboards. The Volvo Ocean Race is entering a tricky final stage as over the next 24 hours they must contend with an area of high pressure passing by them. In the Transat AG2R the next day should be critical as the boats consider gybing north for St Barts. The Olympic classes World Championship deluge has begun with Giles Scott leading at the Finn Nationals/Gold Cup warm-up in Falmouth while Peter O’Leary and David Burrows have moved into pole at the Star Worlds. At the Audi Laser Worlds in Germany, Tom Slingsby has extended his lead while Paul Goodison was awarded a DNE penalty in race one yesterday. Alinghi won the D35 season opener, but only on countback. The Mini's UK Solent 6.50 set sail for Plymouth yesterday.
