A full catastrophe was narrowly averted when Karl Kwok’s Farr 80 Beau Geste all but snapped in half mid-ocean during the Auckland to Noumea race yesterday. Skandia Sail for Gold got off to a light start yesterday. Grant Gordon and his J/97 Fever Glenfiddich were unbeaten at Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series to claim the overall prize. Javier Sanso’s Acciona brought up the rear in the Europa Warm Up race. The Global Ocean Race boat are on the home straight into Les Sables d’Olonne. Jerry Hill came out on top in the SB20 dust up at the Royal Southern YC’s 175th anniversary celebrations. We were sorry to hear of the loss to cancer of French ORMA 60 skipper turned race director, Jean Maurel.
