Ryan Breymaier: Doldrums - tick

So, didn't we get lucky with the Doldrums? One day, 180 miles, in and out, two sail changes, no tacks or gybes, and plenty of boatwork done on our pitstop, most all of it waterproofing.

The speed fell below 10 knots for maybe 10 minutes as we went through, and we had two very nice squalls so that everyone could get a freshwater shower in, the best one coming just before dawn. Even to me, a confirmed cold water hater, it felt great.

Right now we are hard on the wind in 12 to 15 knots, with about 350 miles to go to the eastern tip of Brasil.

We hope to pass about 50 miles offshore, and then the wind should gradually start to free up as we work our way down the South American coast.

We will be in downwind conditions when we hit the depression track off the Argentine coast... Off now for more banging away upwind. Bring it on!
