You win some, you loose some

You win some, you loose some

After a fantastic night last night with our sponsors Messe Frankfurt for which we must thank Jorge Herrera for his hospitality came disappointment for the first time. After 4 hours sleep we left the apartment in Dubai at 3:45 am bound for Abu Dhabi for the beginning of offshore leg 3. Confidence was high after yesterdays brilliant results during the inshore races and we were raring to get going. After stopping off to grab a quick breakfast we arrived at the marina and began final preparations before we left the dock. We docked off at 6:30am for a 7am start, the forecast was for light wind building throughout the day and the weather gods didn’t disappoint. With winds at around two knots the fleet opted for the masted kite and made slow ground down the Abu Dhabi coastline, with winds gusting to 4 knots the French trio of Bertrand Pace, Sidney Gavinet and C├ędric Pouligny took off showing their class! With the following group around 500m behind, the French picked the wind perfectly and extended their lead. Team Messe Frankfurt’s first hour proved decisive, with a bold move to go in search of more favorable winds. A move that would either win them the race or put them last. Unfortunately the outcome is closer to the latter with Messe Frankfurt coming in 7th out of a fleet of 8 some 35 minuets behind 6th place. Off for a debrief now and a chat about tomorrows leg from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimer the shortest leg of the tour measuring only 46 miles in distance. Heres hoping for the positive news to returns today.
