First woman in Musto Skiffs
Kit was at Lake Garda to support her husband Richard, who also races a Skiff, and to do a spot of mountain biking in the stunning surroundings. An Italian competitor sadly had to pull out but Kit was offered the boat to race. The skiff was rebranded with GBR sails, she sailed into history to become the first women to compete in the race.
Kit, a full-time physiotherapist, started sailing a Mirror at the age of eight and has never looked back. She worked up through the classes and joined the Europe class in 1999. Kit was offered a place in the National Team from 1999 - 2001 during which she competed at European and World level. Kit took second place in the Nationals in 1999 and 2001, and is currently ranked second in the National Ranking List.
With the transition from the Europe to the Musto Performance Skiff, Kit spends most weekends brushing up her skills, especially as she will now be competing against her husband. Asked how she felt about her new challenge, Kit replied, "It is great fun having a new goal and an exhilarating one at that. This boat goes extremely fast, and to get the best results, and not to end up in the drink, it needs my full concentration and attention. At the end of a day's training I'm absolutely exhausted, but it's a great buzz as I feel I'm learning so much more each session."
