Skiff pro tour
The European Skiff Pro Tour will run again in 2002. Now the only major 18ft skiff circuit, the pro-tour is largely composed of top sailors from other high performance classes.
Now unofficially retired from top class Skiff racing, Britain's only 18 footer world champion, Tim Robinson says he will not be attending and suggests that the event is more made-for-TV than serious sailing. "The event organisation is very good but it is more a circus than a serious sailing regatta," he says. That said, the organisers have booked some great venues and claim to have one or two star names set to compete. Danish Olympic representative Michael Hestbaek leads the line up with Italian 49er crew Gabriele Bruni looking to win the event for the third time.
Round one of the tour will run from the 16th to 19th May in Mondello/Palermo in Sicily. July takes the fleet to Travemuende, followed by the Italian Grand Prix on Lake Garda The Finals take place in September in Lagos, Portugal.
