RYA Catamaran Development Programme
There are many difficult decisions to make when choosing a new class of boat to sail and the jump to cat sailing can seem like a big step. This is where the RYA Youth Multihull Programme comes in; we provide a structured system from an introduction to Cat sailing to squad training and international event support at the Hobie World Championships and the ISAF World Youth Championships in 2004.
So how do you get involved?
You need to book on to one of the Training and Evaluation days being run in Weymouth on the following dates; Saturday 16th November, Sunday 17th November, Saturday 23rd November and Sunday 24th November.
To get an application form please go the RYA website; http://www.rya.org.uk/Racing/Youth/NatJunior.asp and download a form, or if you have any problems with this please contact Viv Nanopoulou at the RYA, 02380 627494, email@example.com
These training days are run using the RYA’s fleet of Dart 16s so you don’t need to bring your own boat. On the day you will receive top class coaching and an introduction to the world of cat sailing, and you will have a great day on the water.
During the day we will discuss, with you, the best way forward into cat sailing. Depending on your weight, size, age and ability the way forward could be directly into a Hobie 16. Alternatively, the best way forward for you might be to spend some time in a Hobie Dragoon. After each set of training and evaluation days the top 6 suitable teams are offered a fantastic charter deal on a Hobie Dragoon, courtesy of Hobie. For a nominal sum the boat is yours for about four months, provided you insure it and commit to our training and racing programme. This really is a golden opportunity to get into cat racing; with all the support and help you need to break through. It doesn’t come much better than this.
