Fireball Pre Worlds day 2

Our man in Kenya reports on hitting trees plus the results table

Another beatiful day in Kilifi, 90 degrees and good breeze!! Today marked the halfway point of the Pre-Worlds, with the first race of the day in a lighter breeze, down at 8-10 knots.

Our story was a good clean start to be hit with a 720 degree turn from the jury for crew body bouncing on the wire. We swallowed our medicine, two fast turns and were still about 12th by the windward mark.

Two mega downwind legs dragged us up to 4th and back in the race, solid beats and an OCS ahead gave us a 2nd place. But a great win for Malcolm Davies to sharpen his regatta position.

Race two saw more breeze, up at 15 knots, and bigger waves, after a great pin end start we have a big lead by the top mark and extended down the reaches. Unfortunately, we managed to attach a small tree to our rudder up the second beat and 'parked up'. This left an improving Vince Horey and Jim 'Lardy' Turner to march past in the building breeze.

A tight last run with some 'argy-bargy' at the leeward mark allowed Vince to win, leaving us with another second for the day.

There are a few 'deli-bellies' starting to appear in the fleet, including Vyvo [Chips's crew]. As the quality of the all inclusive food at the Mnarani Club is excellent, we can only assume is the large quantity of Tusker Beer that is taking its toll!!!

Last day of the Pre-Worlds tomorrow, time for us to put our World Championship sails on and bed them in.
