Events details announced

Following the success of last year's under 21 helm series, youth participation is the key theme for the North Wales Catamaran series and this is where we are directing our efforts and the sponsorship this year - iab laboratory specialists are subsidising youth entry fees and Cat-bitz (on-line cat parts at ) are providing prizes for the top under-21 helm at each of the four events.

The format is best three results to count and best two for u-21 helms. The series will consist of the following four events, but everyone will be made welcome whether for just one event or all four.

Round one
Bala Cat Open 3/4/5 May. Free event entry for u-21 helms, seven races scheduled over the three day holiday weekend, first start 12.00 on Sat, lakeside camping and caravaning in beautiful Snowdonia National Park, Disco Sat eve, BBQ Sun eve.

Round two
Pwllheli Cat Open 17/18 May. Includes the 64km Pwllheli Raid long-distance race (first of this year's UKCRA long-distance series) plus one day round the cans.

Round three
Beaumaris 26/27 July. Brand new event combining round the cans racing on Saturday and the well established Anglesey Offshore long-distance race - already popular with many cats - on Sunday.

Round four
Dee Cat Open 27/28 September. Includes the series prize-giving on Sunday afternoon.

Last year saw great F18 turnouts and with new boats in the region, this year should be even better. The fleet is again sponsored by iab laboratory specialists who are offering a prize of £50 to the top F18 team based on extracted fleet results.

Everyone is welcome to join us for some of the very best sailing to be found. If you require any further info please check the North Wales Cats website or please contact me ( / 01606 852571).
