Emma Harris reports on this weekend's antics in Northampton

45 Larks arrived at Northampton for the Winter Championships to be greeted
by light and fickle winds.

Two races were held on Saturday, with port biased lines a good start was essential. Jonathan Lewis and Milly Parsons took advantage and combined with good speed, won both races. With two thirds Rob Larke and Sally Wakefield were third over night with
Alan Krailing and Gemma Thompson second with a 2 and 4.

The annual Laying Down Supper was provided by Northampton and in true Lark style the drinking and dancing continued into the early hours.

Sunday brought the promise of more wind which failed to develop until the last race. Races 3 and 4 were shifty with Larke continuing to show consistency with two more 3rds and Alan Krailing counting a 7 and 9. Lewis and Parsons could only manage a 14th and 8th.

With all to play for, lunch was taken and the fleet launched for the decider. Larke had his sights on Lewis with Krailing hoping to pick up second if Lewis was outside the top five.

Lewis avoided the attention of Larke but with Steve Cumley, Bob Suggitt and Dougal Scott in close company it was never going to be easy. With many place changes and five different leaders Lewis took first, from Krailing with Suggitt third, and the title.

However, The real winners of the weekend were the Class Association for organising the event and Northampton Sailing Club for excellent delivery both on and off the water.
