A weekend of close racing at the Rutland Sailing Club saw RYA Team GBR performance squad members Helena Lucas, Ed Wright, Nic Asher-Elliot Willis and Christina Bassadone-Saskia Clark share the spoils at the penultimate event in the 2005 RYA Olympic Classes National Ranking Series.

Racing took place across three classes, with World Championship bronze medallist Helena Lucas topping the 2.4mR table after a solid performance which included three race wins and three second places across the six-race series. Lucas finished two points clear of Peter Cook in second, with Megan Pascoe matching her third place podium finish from the Weymouth national ranking series event two weeks ago.

Ed Wright won the battle of the heavyweights in the 23-boat Finn fleet. Thanks to four race victories, Wright finished six points clear of Matt Howard in second, with Ed Greig occupying the third podium position just a point behind Howard. Chris Brittle, winner in Weymouth a fortnight ago and currently atop the Finn national ranking tables, finished in fourth with 15 points.

In the men’s 470, Weymouth winners Luke Patience and Chris Grube couldn’t quite make it two ranking Series wins in a row, finishing the Rutland regatta in second place, three points behind RYA Team GBR performance squad members Nic Asher and Elliot Willis. World silver medallists Christina Bassadone and Saskia Clark were the highest placed women’s boat in the 470 fleet.

The final RYA National Ranking Series event of the year takes place at Warsash Sailing Club from 12-13 November.
