Olympic medallists, World Champion and Volvo Ocean Race sailors swap oilskins for cricket whites in aid of the John Merricks Sailing Trust (JMST).

Ben Ainslie, Ian Walker, Stuart Childerley, David Carr, Jonathan ‘Boycey’ Taylor and Tom McWilliam head up the Bugle / JMST cricket XI for the annual cricket tournament in Hamble on Sunday 26 July. Local pubs The Bugle, King & Queen, The Victory and Ye Olde Whyte Harte will compete for the coveted Bugle Charity Cricket Challenge Cup.

Lanson Champagne are sponsoring the event which features a full day of entertaining cricket matches, a scrumptious barbeque lunch that will be sizzling all afternoon, a bar operating throughout with plenty of thirst quenching Pimm’s and a grand prize raffle.

Venue: Playing Fields by the Roy Underdown Pavilion, Spitfire Way, Hamble. The first match starts 11.00 – final takes place mid afternoon.

Ian Walker, double Olympic silver medallist and most recently Skipper of the Green Dragon Team in the Volvo Ocean Race, is looking forward to competing in a sport that is played on terra firma after his many months at sea. “Freddie Flintoff will have nothing on Ben Ainslie when we starts thundering in from the Spitfire Way end! I am just hoping its not freeze dried food on the barbecue”, he commented.

Please do come along and support the teams - a fantastic day out for all the family.
