Speed windsurfers eye up forecast

Thursday January 3rd 2008, Author: Thedailysail, Location: United Kingdom
The Masters of Speed crew, hunkered down in Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, in Southern France are anxiously looking at a developing weather system that may give them a brief window of strong winds to take on the 50 knot barrier once again this winter.

A low over Spain that has deepened is matched with a high pressure much further north in Europe bring with it a belt of 40-50knot winds from a favourable ESE direction.

Thursday night looks best, but the windsurfer team are hoping that the tailend of today and first thing Friday morning will deliver good conditions.

Finian Maynard, the world’s quickest man over 500m (48,70 knots) is joined by French record holder Antoine Albeau, (46,55 knots) and fellow speed windsurfers David Garrel, Karin Yaggi, Marion Raizy, Cédric Bord.
