National 12s at Yeadon
Saw the local boats of John and Alison Cheetham and Howard Chadwick and Helen Nicholson take an early lead with much place changing before John managed to break clear. Philip and Helen David sailing their vintage 12 slightly closing the gap towards the end on Howard with Sue Jones and Ben Geldeard finishing in 4th place.
Again developed into a battle between John and Howard but this time John pulled clear early in the race and maintained this position to the end. Philip David was challenging hard and managed to get up into 2nd place only to lose out on the last run to Howard and drop back to 3rd with Terry and Barbara Spence in 4th place.
Having temporarily lost Alison into her Optimist John decided to sit out the last race leaving Howard and Philip fighting for the overall second place. Howard managed to pull clear for a while only to be reined in again as the wind dropped. Fortunately for Howard the breeze came back and the gap opened again leaving him to finish 1st with Philip 2nd, Brian Herring and Ros Stevenson 3rd and Brian Miatt with Yvonne McInnes in 4th in a borrowed vintage 12
The event showed very clearly that vintage 12s are still very competitive when sailing on restricted inland water especially when depth is a problem and the modern twelves suffer from long rudders and very little hull rocker.
