Tornado Europeans get underway today
Monday March 8th 2004, Author: Sasha Oswald, Location: none selectedThe Olympic class sailing season is now in full flight and with only six months to go until the Olympic Games the competition is really getting tough.
This week will be no exception when the Tornado class, the only multihull at the Olympics, will take part in their European championships out of the Real Club Nautico Gran Canaria in the Canary islands.
Competing in the event will be British Olympic hopefuls Leigh McMillan and Mark Bulkeley who won their place in Team GB Athens 2004 after a fantastic result at the world championships last September where they won a silver medal.
They will be competing alongside many of the top names in the class and will be looking to see if the months spent training over the winter have paid off.
The event gets underway today and continues through until Saturday 13 March. The event will comprise of ten races, and the sailors will be able to discard their worst result when six races have been sailed.
