RS600 national champion Gareth Morgan is one of a number of 600 sailors planning on getting into the new RS700 this season. According to Ben Dunton of LDC Racing Sailboats, the gennaker-rigged trapeze single-hander is now up to 40 orders, and you can’t get one until May.

A small fleet of RS700s is building up at Stokes Bay with 600 sailors like Andy White and Russell Belben planning on racing them there. Belben’s brother, former 470 Olympic representative Jason, campaigned the 600 last year and finished fifth in his first nationals. "We’re trying to convince him to get into a 700," said Russell, "but I think he’s got himself set on winning the 600 nationals this year."

The London Boat Show was a big success for the burgeoning RS brand, according to Dunton, who said they had secured 95 orders for new boats. Aside from the 40 for RS700s, 40 were for the new Vareo, 15 were for the new K-6 keelboat, with the rest spread among existing RS classes.
