All the competitors arrived safely in Kenya and a one hour bus ride from
Mobassa airport got us to the most amazing sailing venue in Kilifi. All the
boats arrived OK except for a capsized container, luckly no damage.
Monday was used to tune and get used to the great conditions where the fleet
launches from the beach resort of Mnarani Club, sails out of Kilifi Creek,
round two reefs into perfect 15-20 knots on-shore breezes and 'tasty' waves.
I cannot think I have been to a better venue (even Garda!!).
Our story was we were slow yesterday and did a bit of 'sole searching'
last night, but with the first two races of the Pre-World Championships
today, we were very happy to get two bullets. Our speed isn't as good as it
has been and Dave Wage/Richard Wagstaff are sailing like legends, but we
made better starts and defended from the front.
We had a close call with two dolphins at the last leeward mark of race 1,
and there has been some great collisions with Whale Sharks and 2ft diameter
This really is a great place to race.
Early night tonight, and hoping for another solid day tomorrow
