Organisers of the Round Texel announced at 9.05 today that this year’s Round Texel race will be postponed to tomorrow 16 June 2013 due to severe weather and wind forecast.

Race Manager Jeroen Romkema explained to a big crowd of cat sailors and fans that the weather and wind predictions made the race committee decide to postpone the race 16 June. A cold front is expected to cross the island today approximately at the initial start time. In that front wind will increase to 23-25 knots. After the front has passed the sun will come out and wind will increase with gusts up to 30 knots.

Security officer Willem Hemelraad added that the Round Texel race will be sailed tomorrow 16 June. The weather forecast for 16 June is almost perfect. It calls for partly cloudy conditions and relatively strong winds (18 knots) in the morning, decreasing during the day.

Most of the competitors (270 boats were entered) were very happy with the decision of the race committee and look forward to competing tomorrow June 16th in the biggest cat race in the world.
