One Ton Cup Corel 45 World Championship - Final DayResults as posted yesterday were changed by late protests decisions which disqualified Atalanti X, removing them from the overall lead and moving Cavlae Bleu into the lead.
So, on the last day with two races scheduled it seemed that the racing would be very close. The weather conditions were still demanding, with the Mistral blowing in the South Bay of Marseille at up to 25 knots, with gusts up to 30/35 knots.
In the first race the Swedish, Investor, helmed by owner Thomas Blixt, was the fastest across the starting line and those choose the right-hand side of the course, with Cavale Bleu the first to round the windward mark. Those going left including Atalanti X, Faster K-Yote II and Serono suffered. On the second windward leg Cavale Bleu once again choose the right-hand side but this time left was better and they rounded fourth.
At the end of the second run the British boat, Indulgence, helmed by Adrian Stead, took the lead and held it to the line. La Casera, helmed by American Chris Larson, was second in front of Atalanti X. On the last leg Cavale Bleu had their spinnaker blown out and crossed the finishing line in 6th position. There were plenty of red flags flying after this race.
For the final race the wind was building and Serono and Cavale Bleu came out of the start first but Indulgence was always in the right place and in the end took the lead and won the second race of the day. These two wins put them in third overall, a perfect way to finish their championship.
Meanwhile there was a close fight among the other yachts, Cavale Bleu defended her second position until the finish. While Faster K-Yote II managed to pass Serono and Atalanti X on the second windward leg, but they both came back through on the downwind leg to the finish line.
At the end of the 11 race series the French boat, Cavale Bleu, owned by Michel Duquenne with Thierry Peponnet (one gold and one bronze Olympic medals in the 470 class) helming and Luc Gelluseau (manager of the French America's Cup Challenge in Auckland) calling tactics was the 2000 IC45 World Champion.
This is the second One Ton Cup win for Luc Gellusseau - last year on Faster K-Yote II in Spain.
Second overall was Atalanti X, owned by George Andreadis and third was Indulgence owned by Graham Walker.
