Beashel to race in Farr 40 Australian Championship

The five-times Olympian takes tactician's job aboard world champion's boat

Colin Beashel, Australia's five times yachting Olympian, has stepped in as tactician aboard Farr 40 world champion John Calvert-Jones’s Southern Star 2.
Beashel has answered a request from his long-term sailing mate and America's Cup winning navigator Grant Simmer, to fill his crew role after Simmer was delayed in Europe with his commitment to the Swiss America's Cup challenge.

Skipper Calvert-Jones has set his ambition on winning the Australian Farr 40 Telstra Cup class trophy to add to his world title win earlier this year. His last minute crew change should not have any effect on the crew as Beashel is regarded as one of the best skipper/tacticians in the country. His younger brother Adam, who narrowly missed selection in the 49er for the Olympics, will also be aboard.

The toughest team for Southern Star 2 to beat will probably be defending national champion Marcus Blackmore and his Emotional Hooligan crew. After claiming his career best win 12 months ago Blackmore has remained as Australia's top ranked Farr 40 skipper by winning the class title at Hamilton Island Race Week and defeating Calvert-Jones in the Ord Minnet title in Sydney two weeks ago.
