The Spinnaker ‘A’ team continued their winning ways on the team racing circuit at the RNVR event on 10 & 11 November, despite one of their usual helmsmen pulling out with an eye infection.
Roger Morris had to drop out before the semi-finals, to be replaced by Stevie Mitchell for the last two crucial rounds of the 10-team event, organised by South Staffs Sailing Club.

On the first day, competitors had a shifty force 2-4 to contend with - skies were overcast but the rain held off for the most part. At the end of day 1 Spinnaker 'A' & Rickmansworth 'A' team had the best records with West Kirby 'A' , Spinnaker 'B', Weybridge & South Staffs 'A' all packed close together on three or four wins.

After the usual revelry of the night before, there was a slightly subdued start to Sunday’s racing but near perfect conditions with stronger winds and bright sunshine. The round robin was completed with an interesting race between Ricky 'B' (who couldn’t make the finals) and South Staffs 'A' - if South Staffs won they were through / if Ricky 'B' won Spinnaker 'B' would go through.

There were anxious faces on the shore as Ricky 'B' held 1,4,5 - then groans as Alex Davey in 1 capsized at the bottom mark. Spinnaker 'B' went to get changed only to find that there had been a black flag incident, and the result was overturned by the umpire.

After lunch Spinnaker 'A' stepped up for the first semi-final with their new substitute in place, to face the other Spinnaker team. The 'A' team prevailed 2-0 after overturning a 2,3,4 in the first race.

The second semi was between Ricky 'A' and West Kirby . The first race was a 1,2 to Ricky 'A' but West Kirby took the second. Race 3 saw an even start but a 1,3 for Ricky 'A' at the top mark - the race was turned around at the second mark with 2 Ricky 'A' boats doing turns - West Kirby through.

To the final between West Kirby and Spinnaker 'A' and again 1-1 and into the decider. At the bottom of the first run it was 1,3,4 to Spinnaker. Spinnaker’s second boat was sailed out but this allowed Spinnaker’s third boat to go through to second and they held 1,2 till the finish.

The Spinnaker 'A' team consisted of: Steve Tylecote/ Stuart Hudson/Stevie Mitchell / Debs Kershaw/ Jane Stamp/ Amy Smith
