BT Global Challenge - Leg 2 Finish - 20/11/00

After winning Leg 2, madforsailing's diary writer has been chilling by the pool
madforsailing is following the BT Global Challenge through the diaries of Conrad Humphreys (skipper) and Andy Magrath (crewman) aboard LG FLATRON. They won the second leg, and Andy's still buzzing ... Andy Magrath, LG FLATRON, Monday 20th November; What a finish! I have had an amazing trip down from Boston. The sailing has been incredible, with every weather condition and every possible sail change. At the finish we were greeted by crowds of supporters with music, hamburgers and of course - beer and champagne! Needless to say, I ended up having an early night, rather the worse for wear. Now we are just chilling out at the yacht club where the boats are moored. With the fleet arriving, we've been on the terrace enjoying a cold beer and cheering the boats in. It's nice to get the tension of our own finish over, tacking up the River Plate at the end was incredibly frustrating, a case of so near yet so far! It's amazing how a hundred mile lead can seem so small, even when we were so close to the finish line. Winning the leg was fantastic, but more importantly we have the overall lead, with Quadstone three points behind in second place. We also made the back page of a national newspaper today. We were waving Argentinian flags and wearing our crew shirts which just happen to be identical to the Boca Juniors football shirts - the biggest football team in Argentina. The headline was, "Boca Juniors have arrived". The atmosphere here is electric and it feels great to be part of it. Tonight is our crew meal and tomorrow there is a party at the yacht club, so it's all go! We start work on the boat tomorrow but it might be tough getting anything done with the bar so
