Mark Chisnell reports as Parlier blitzes the 24 hour record, but high pressure still stalks the pack

Weather forecast at 0000, 9/12/00The longer term picture is much more stable and in the image (left) for 9/12/00, we can see that the South Atlantic High is back where it belongs, rather than in the Southern Ocean. The low pressure that's currently incoming from the west and set to up the tempo again towards the end of this week is still visible by the cross-hairs marking 45S and 8E.

There's another big low pressure system boiling away to the south of it, and we are looking at a much more conventional Southern Ocean weather pattern, rocking and rolling all the way to the Horn - let's hope safely - barring intervention from the Pacific Ocean high pressure ....
