Swiss Challenge gets the nod
Coutts and co are confirmed as Challengers
Ernesto Bertarelli's trip to Auckland seems to have done the trick. The head of the Swiss syndicate - who's challenge has been controversially referred to Arbitration after queries over the nature of its qualifying regatta - recently flew into Auckland to try to sort the matter out. And now, Sir David Tompkins of the America's Cup Arbitration Panel has declared the challenge valid. Nothing like a little personal contact to sort out a problem.
According to a
report, Tompkins said that the panel will deliver the reasons for its decision in 'due course'. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron have apparently welcomed the decision, Commodore Peter Taylor saying, "This prompt decision from the Arbitration Panel means that we can now bank the Swiss check and formally acknowledge a valid challenge."
