The Race - Progress Report

Team Philips, Code One and PlayStation all report in

Team Philips is still going strong out in the Atlantic, and at 0915 on the 7/12/00 was reported by their website as being 615 nm east of Greenland, doing about 15 to 20 knots in 10 knots of wind. They are still working their way round the back of the hundred year storm, but will need to pick the moment to come south as there's another monster rolling in for early next week.

Two more of the maxi multi-hulls working towards The Race can report satisfactory progress as we close to within four weeks of the start on December 31st. Code One with co-skipper's Loïck Peyron, Skip Novak and their crew have safely arrived in the Mediterranean after their trip round from France. After suffering some grim weather over the weekend, they are through the Straits of Gibraltar in one piece. Peyron and his team will continue their preparation, but should be in Monaco for the Prologue on the 15th, 16th and 17th December.

PlayStation is almost ready to depart for the Med after their rebuild and relaunch. They got out for some test sailing from Southampton over the weekend of the 2-3rd December, which went off successfully. They expect to do some fine tuning of the new Cuben Fibre sails, but apart from that they report that the boat is ready to be raced and rallied. They plan a final sail on 7th December before heading off for Monaco on Friday 8th December. Skipper Steve Fossett commented, "We are making every effort to arrive in time for the Monaco Prologue sailing events."
