Ian Walker moves to Fireflies

Ian Walker at Hamble Warming PansIan Walker was at the Hamble River Warming Pan racing in a very different type of yacht to what will be his normal craft in a few weeks time.

The Olympic medalist and Sailing Manager to the GBR Challenge America's Cup team, was helming a Firefly dinghy with guest junior crew members from the club.

Hamble River SC have a programme to purchase six Firefly dinghies for club juniors to use as an introduction to sailing and racing and for club members to use in team racing.

Ian, through his involvement with the John Merricks Sailing Trust, who are providing the fourth Firefly to the club, was happy to sail one of the new dinghies in the famous early spring series and at the same time instruct local youngsters in some racing tactics while thrashing the opposition.
