Steve Fossett has outlined his summer schedule for the big cat

Friday February 16th 2001, Author: Mark Chisnell, Location: United Kingdom
Steve Fossett's maxi cat PlayStation is still sitting at the dock in Palm Beach, Florida, USA - her landing place after the withdrawal from The Race. And while the rest of the fleet that started with PlayStation from Barcelona are still charging (some more than others) round the world, Steve Fossett has been planning a summer of record attempts.
After Club Med's extraordinary performance to date, it seems that when these big cats get going they have the capacity not just to break every record in the book - but to tear the whole book up and rewrite it. With Dalton leaving Club Med to join Nautor's Volvo Ocean Race programme as soon as The Race is over, and the future of both Innovation Explorer and Team Adventure uncertain because of their on-going sponsorship search, Fossett will be anxious to step into the gap and get his name on a few more records.

He hopes that the boat and crew should be ready to embark on a spring programme, from early April onwards. They will have a crack at the Miami to New York passage first, and then another attempt at the biggie - the New York to Lizard Point west-to-east transatlantic record. This is the one that Fossett will really want, Serge Madec and Jet Services' decade old record. Once over on the European side of the pond, they will also look at having a go at the record that Club Med broke on her first trip - the east-to-west transat.
