Having had to cancel plans to hold the 2001 Optimist European Championship in Israel, due to the security problems there, the International Optimist Class has decided to relocate the event to the Real Club Nautico in Gran Canaria.

The dates for the event will remain the same - 1 to 8 August - with early arrivals welcome from the 27 July.

A new Notice of Race will be posted on the International Optimist site before the end of the month.
And while we are talking Oppis

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the fleet of Optimists at the Optimist Easter Regatta in Lake Garda, Italy, is the biggest fleet of one-design boats ever to race. 480 Optimists from eleven countries were competing at the 19th Easter Meeting. Placed end to end the boats would cover 1.1 km!
