The next Olympic cycle kicks off with a big training week in Weymouth, organised by the RYA from 10-17 February.

RYA racing coach Stephen Park, or Sparky as most people know him, told madforsailing: "We’ve got a World Class Performance day organised on 11 February at the Weymouth Sailing Academy. It’s a chance for anyone who is planning an Olympic campaign for 2004 to come along and see what is involved - in terms of the RYA programme, the funding, the coaching support and other aspects of campaigning."

Then a week of training follows for 49ers, 470s, Finns, Europes and Mistrals at the Sailing Academy. The Tornado world championships are taking place during the same week in South Africa, whilst the racing and training programmes for the keelboat classes, the Star and Yngling, are quite different. Ynglings are still thin on the ground, so a training session for prospective women’s keelboat sailors is planned to take place in Sonars in March, according to Sparky.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the RYA’s Olympic programme can visit the RYA website, or email Sparky - just click on the name.
