Richard Bennett opens up shop on the internet

Hobart '98 Famous for his Sydney-Hobart pictures, yachting photographer Richard Bennett has just opened a new e-commerce website. The Tasmanian snapper has been taking images for 32 years, starting on an Australian Andean Expedition to Peru back in 1969.

It was five years later when Bennett took a flight over the east coast of Tasmania to capture some 'mood' pictures - and the trip happened to coincide with the arrival of the Hobart yachts. Bennett started shooting and was still at it 26 years later in the 2000 running of the event.

But it was perhaps the tragic race of 1998 that most put him in the public eye, capturing the image of AFR Rambler (above) that won Best Sports Photograph 1999 in the Nikon Kodak Press Photographer of the Year Award. Bennett has also been a finalist of the Eisenstadt Awards for Press Photography, New York, in 1999. And he is a past National President of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and Chairman of the Australian Professional Photography Awards.

Bennett's website contains classic photographs from many of the last 26 Sydney to Hobart races, along with all the photos from the 2000 Sydney-Hobart, and 2000 Strathfield Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Race 2000. But he added, "Over time an even larger number of my favourite images from all this years of yachting photography will be able to be purchased from our website, either as traditional mounted photographs or as high quality JPEG images."
