Vendee Globe - 1230 - 12/1/01Looking ahead, the low pressure system will drift south-east and fill quite quickly through Saturday, and by Monday it's gone (right). That means there will be a light spot for those around the Horn until the next system moves in from the west. But this should be pouring some solid breeze off the Andes and into the South Atlantic by Sunday.
That system is forecast to combine with the second low pressure to the east to set up a strong north-westerly flow for those rounding Cape Horn and heading north. That means some heavy air upwind work - nothing less than expected as this next section of the course sees them having to work their way round the western edge of the South Atlantic High, against the anti-clockwise flow of the wind.
But it could be even tougher for some of the group behind the leading four, as this low pressure is forming and moving a long way north. And they could find themselves battling headwinds in the Southern Ocean, which definitely wasn't in the brochure.
