Third America's Cup boat rig to go atumbling

Oracle Racing has become the third America's Cup syndicate in as many months to break a rig while training on the Hauraki Gulf. The strange thing about this one was that the mast broke while the team were sailing in just six knots of breeze.

Oracle Racing spokeswoman Joanna Ingley told madfor sailing "the team is not clear why it happened, but they are investigating the causes. It broke somewhere around the middle."

But Ingley said the breakage would not hold up the team for too long. "They'll be sailing again before the end of the week," she said.

Larry Ellison's team are not short of money, but it seems they have even more in the way of drama. They certainly top the breakdown stakes with one dismasting and two diskeelings to their credit. Add to that the recent departure of Paul Cayard from the team and Oracle Racing has all the makings of a prime time soap opera.
