Anyone who is anyone in the world of UK yachting will be descending upon Cowes this Friday to witness the unveiling of Wight Lightning GBR70, the brand new boat of Peter Harrison's GBR Challenge. This fine vessel will be the one the British team will be campaigning in the Louis Vuitton Cup in October.

The launch will be taking place at the impressive GBR Challenge complex on the Medina River in Cowes. The ceremony is due to kick off at around 1130 and will include speeches from former Chernikeeff Networks boss Peter Harrison, without whom this challenge would not have got off the ground, and double Olympic medallist Ian Walker, GBR Challenge's Skipper.

The cracking of the champagne will be undertaken by HRH Princess Anne and 5 year old George Pickering from Camberly who came up with the name of the boat following a competition run in conjunction with the BBC children's programme Blue Peter.

There will follow in the evening a gala dinner at the base for an estimated 800 people.

The new GBR70 will be out of the water and will not be launched prior to be shipped to New Zealand. The GBR Challenge sailing squad are expected to spend the next few weeks in the UK training and corporate sailing with the two Farr 52s Bear of Britain and Peter Harrision's Chernikeef.

To follow Friday's launch live from the comfort of your office or armchair, then the entire proceedings are to be the subject of a webcast. To view the webcast click here. It will run from around 11.25 Friday until midday.
