Holt RYA National Ranking Series
The five two-day events, which take place around the UK throughout the year, provide an opportunity for non-lottery funded Olympic class sailors to compete head to head with Britain's elite to win funding for participation on the international Olympic class circuit.
This weekend sees the 49er, Europe, 470, Mistral and Finn classes compete as well as the 2.4mR Paralympic class. Many of the sailors will be using the weekend as a warm up prior to the first major event in the Olympic class regatta season, the Princess Sofia Regatta, which takes place in Palma next month.
Not only should the weekend provide some exciting racing for the competitors but it is also a chance for teams to socialise over a drink sponsored by Holt on the Saturday night, catch up with class news and exchange sailing tips.
"Following on from the success of the Holt sponsorship last year we are delighted to have them on board for the 2003 Series," commented RYA Development Squads Manager Barrie Edgington, who went on to say, "As well as an opportunity to race against the top RYA Team GBR sailors and Olympic medallists the two events in the spring have a special significance as qualifiers for the limited entry ISAF World Sailing Championships 2003 which forms part of the 2004 Olympic Selection Process."
The race series is an open event and therefore anybody who sails an Olympic class boat can enter. Registration takes place from 10 00 on the Saturday with the first race scheduled at midday with a maximum of six races scheduled over the weekend. After each event a Holt RYA National Ranking list will be compiled which will then be used to distribute grants and allocate entry places at International regattas.
The notice of race and dates of the other four events are printed in the Olympic Classes Handbook 2003 on the RYA website or for further information contact RYA Racing on 023 8060 2164.
