London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games is hotting up, in fact it is "at crunch point," as one official from the British Olympic Association described it to The Daily Sail.

Many are understandably keen to sway the government towards going ahead with the bid and in an attempt to help sway them Olympic rower Matthew Pinsent is putting out a plea to get written support from Olympians, companies, organisations or individuals with influence.

A petition representing all avenues of sport is being created prior to a Cabinet Sub Committee meeting so all of those who feel that their support might help the cause should send a fax to this effect to 020 8871 9104 by the end of play Friday (24 Jan). Faxes should be addressed to Tony Blair.

The bid for the 2012 Games to come to London already have the support of the London Business Board, the London CBI, the London Chambers of Commerce and London First, as well as the full support of the CBI and many companies for the bid, which if won will be great economically for the country as well as extremely good for our sport.
