Alfred McAlpine is one of the UK’s leading support services organisations, focussing on providing business critical support in the public and private sector across the country’s built environment.
In 2004, Alfred McAlpine provided sponsorship both in terms of cash and in technical support for the Athens Games. Alongside accommodation units, air conditioning units and vehicles Alfred McAlpine’s business services team also set the sailors up with mobile phones and BlackBerry hand held devices so that they could be in constant contact with each other and the support team. The new sponsorship agreement is of a similar nature.
Sponsorship of Team GBR allows Alfred McAlpine to highlight its broad scope of services and to work closely with the RYA to help with employee development programmes, reward and incentivisation schemes, team building and corporate hospitality. Alfred McAlpine Business Services will lead the sponsorship of the RYA Team. Its managing director Craig McGilvray said:
“At Athens in 2004 Britain’s sailors confirmed their status as number one in the world for the second Games running. We recognised very quickly that the commitment of Team GBR and the values of the Olympics sit neatly alongside Alfred McAlpine’s values of passion, honesty, collaboration, winning, enjoyment. We are proud to be part of the most successful Olympic sailing team in history and we look forward to working with them over the next Olympic cycle.”
Team GBR have been working hard over the past six months with Capitalize, their sponsorship consultancy, to put together a new and dynamic commercial sponsorship strategy. The objective is to add to the lottery funding received from UK Sport by attracting commercial sponsor/supplier partners in a programme that will benefit the overall team as well as the individual sailors campaigning for the 2008 Olympics. Alfred McAlpine plc is the second Silver Level Sponsor to sign up to the team after Gul International was appointed as Technology Clothing Partner last month.
Stephen Park, RYA Team GBR Team Manager, commented, “We are very excited that Alfred McAlpine Plc have agreed to extend their support of the team carrying on from Athens 2004 and we look forward to working closely with them over the next four years to deliver both medal winning results and excellent return on their investment across all aspects of the programme.”
