As Treacy/Shanks and Percy/Mitchell dominate day three of the Star Europeans

The 65 competitors at the Star European Championships added a third race to their scores today resulting in a change at the top, although the overall European leader remains the same.

In the light conditions, victory in race three went to Max Treacy and Anthony Shanks of Ireland who managed to fend off world champions and team GBR sailors Iain Percy and Steve Mitchell, who were back up to speed with their repaired light weather mainsail. Percy/Mitchell crossed the line in second place overall, just in front of Christian Rasmussen and Peter Oersted of Denmark.

Percy commented, "We sailed a much better day today, we had the correct mainsail up for the conditions and we were back up to pace."

Scoring a fourth place, triple Olympian Mark Reynolds, sailing with Austin Sperry, moved to the top of the scoreboard but, as Americans, they are not eligible for a medal at the Europeans, so Fredrik Loof/Andres Ekstrom of Sweden are still in the top spot, despite scoring their worst result of the regatta so far, a thirteenth place.

Second place overall in the European standings goes to Niklas Holm/Martin Leifelt of Denmark with the 2002 world bronze medallists Xavier Rohart/Yannick Adde of France in third place.

Racing continues through until Friday 11 October, with Thursday scheduled as a reserve day, although as the championship is a race behind schedule this may not be the case.
