Entries for the 2003 Sovereign’s Cup regatta hit the 100 mark as Brown Thomas and Jacobs Engineering announced that they are back on board as day sponsors.

The biennial regatta run by Kinsale Yacht Club has steadily gained popularity since its inception. Entries from Sligo ‘round to Dublin complement the enthusiastic and popular Welsh fleet now considered ‘regulars’ by the club.

Brown Thomas and Jacobs Engineering have had a positive involvement in the regatta in previous years. Brown Thomas have sponsored the day and overall prizes, in particular the impressive Waterford Crystal Sovereign’s Cup, presented to the skipper of the yacht judged overall winner in IRC. “We’re delighted to have Brown Thomas and Jacobs Engineering back on board with us” said Regatta Director Pat Pyne. “Both have been very supportive of the regattas in the past and we appreciate their involvement again.”

Proving as popular as ever is the ‘Gentleman’s Class’, which provides a white sail, one race per day regatta. This ‘more civilised’ option will have particular appeal to the skipper planning a cruising holiday in West Cork. “Its an opportunity to bring family and friends out on the water to partake in the fun and excitement of the regatta without having to endure the two race per day programme of the racing sailor” explained Pyne.

At the last regatta, the Gentleman’s Fleet successfully lobbied with their OOD Bruce Matthews to wait until they had finished watching a match on TV before starting their day’s race.
