Another record takes a dip

Following the all time race record, the monohull record tumbles and the Ultra 30's fight to the line

Records continue to tumble in the Hoya Round the Island Yacht race today. First to go was the all time record - Frances Joyon's Dexia Eure et Loi setting a new record of 3 hours, 10 minutes and 11 seconds, breaking the record by just under 45 minutes.
Next to go was the monohull record of 5 hours 12 minutes 3 seconds. Mike Slade's 90ft maxi Skandia Life Leopard lowered his own monohull record set in 1996 to 4 hours, 5 minutes and 40 seconds.

The two Ultra 30's battled to the finish line just 23 seconds apart, Reloaded Red Square, sailed by Russell Peters taking the gun from Hoya, Ian Barker in 4 hours, 26 minutes and 45 seconds.

Others under the old record were the IRC class 1 boats; Mandrake with an elapsed time of 5 hours and 45 seconds followed by Island Fling, Skandia Life Lepold, Full Pelt/Slam and Bear of Britain.In the Big Boat Class MGYR Open 60 finished in 4 hours, 37 minutes and 41 seconds while Sunenergy missed the old record by just three seconds but took the handicap result.
