Fossett's maxi-cat has arrived in Barcelona

Wednesday December 20th 2000, Author: Mark Chisnell, Location: United Kingdom
According to The Race Press Office, "She's here and you can't miss her, a 40 metre mast with impressive rake, 38 metres long, more than 18 metres of beam and bows to devour the sea." It seems that Steve Fossett's PlayStation arrived in Marina Port Vell on Wednesday evening at 2200, joining the line-up of Club Med, Innovation Explorer and Team Adventure. The crews of the latter three teams have also attended a compulsory safety course, covering liferafts and survival at sea.
Meanwhile, back out in the Med, after all their trouble with storm conditions in the Atlantic, the last two boats to join the fleet are now struggling with light air in their efforts to get to Barcelona. Roman Paszke's Warta-Polpharma is doing 13 knots off the coast of Portugal, with the Straits of Gibraltar about 270 nm away. Tony Bullimore's Team Legato is only doing 4.2 knots, with 236 miles to go to the same waypoint.
