Barlo Plastics and the RYA have called a press conference at the Royal Southern Yacht Club, for Monday, 2nd April.
Journalists, reporters, photographers and camera crews have been invited to attend "a major press announcement" regarding the Admiral's Cup 2001.

This is to be followed by a question and answer session with the Barlo Plastics British Admiral's Cup Team skippers and the Royal Yachting Association.

After the withdrawal of the USA team - which set the whole crisis in motion - and with the list of nations withdrawing teams growing longer, the statement by RORC general manager, David Minords, that the event would not go ahead without at least four genuine international teams, seemed to settle the matter.

RYA keelboat manager, Bill Edgerton was recently quoted as saying that: "They have to set up an event in 2001. If they do not get an event in 2001 then you will not get an event in 2003, that is for sure."

"They could invent an event and call it the Admiral's Cup" he said, "but it would be a totally different event".

It seems that Monday we will know - Admiral's Cup or a different event?
