Team Philips Update

A quick progress report from the west country

Monday October 23rd 2000, Author: Mark Chisnell, Location: United Kingdom
Team Philips have moved both masts into the factory in Totnes, in preparation for the repair and preventative changes they will make before going sailing again. This follows the damage done to the port side mast during sea trials. They have removed the bottom eight inches from both masts to make a full examination, which has enabled them to confirm that there is no damage to the mast structure.
The team are closing in on a final answer to the method of repair and reckon they are 95% of the way to a decision. There are two choices left, and either technique is reckoned to take the same amount of time - both would see Team Philips back in the water in mid-to-late November. Meanwhile, the rigless boat remains in the marina in Dartmouth, where the slight damage to the port forward bulkhead - sustained during the mast failure - will be repaired.
