Assa Abloy to sail training boat in Round Gotland Race

Friday June 29th 2001, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom
Many of the crew from Roy Heiner's Assa Abloy Volvo Ocean 60 will be taking part in the Accenture Gotland Runt this weekend aboard the team's training boat Semcon R&D/Assa Abloy. Skipper Roy Heiner and the other crewmembers will battle against six other Volvo Ocean 60s. Co-skipper Mark Rudiger will not be on board as he is representing Assa Abloy in the 2001 Transpac Race from Los Angeles to Hawaii, which he has won three times.

Seven Volvo Ocean 60s and the older generation Whitbread 60s will be on the starting line of the Gotland Runt this Sunday (1 July). It will be the first real race for the Team SEB, djuice dragons and Assa Abloy Volvo Ocean Race teams.
"Gotland Runt gives us a great opportunity to get into race mode with the crew," commented skipper Roy Heiner. "We are constantly sail testing using our new race boats in Gothenburg, so it is good to combine that with some real racing. We are sailing this race on our training boat, that we used while the new boats were being constructed, because we do not want to disrupt our two boat testing programme too much." Team SEB and djuice dragons will be racing aboard their new Volvo Ocean 60s.
