GBR’s second team for the 2001 World Team Racing Championships in the Czech Republic this summer has now been selected. The RYA selectors said they placed an emphasis on building for the future, so the second team is younger than the more experienced first team headed by Stuart Hudson.
Owen Modral will captain the second team, which also consists of Rob Sheringham, Tom Hebbert, Susie Short, Rich Guy and Sarah Proctor.

Head of the selectors Chris Atkins wrote this letter to all competitors, explaining why they settled on their final selection: "Following a meeting of the RYA's team racing committee this week, the selectors were asked to consider sailors from within and outside the squad and select taking into account the following additional criteria:

- that the overall chance of the UK winning the 2001 World Team Racing Championships should be maximised;
- that the value in sending a second team this year to UK World Championships success in future years should be maximised;
- that the decision should be made now to enable the second team to take part in UK events this spring.

"My congratulations to these six, and thank you again to all other squad members for your time and commitment over the last few months."
